Museum of Modern Literature
The permanent exhibition at the Museum of Modern Literature (LiMo) set its sights on nothing less than the spirit of German literature. What is literature? What is it capable of? What can one find of it upon searching in the archive for texts from 1899 to 2001?
The large space for the permanent exhibition is complemented by a virtual museum of the twenty-first century.
The large temporary exhibitions also take place in the Museum of Modern Literature. They present holdings of the archive and are laboratory for different research projects, such as the Network of literary experiences (Netzwerk literarische Erfahrung). An additional noteworthy feature of the museum is Hans Magnus Enzenberger’s Poetry Machine, on loan from the Sammlung Würth Künzelsau. It composes potential oracles at the touch of a button: »It’s a game. The extent to which one imbues it with meaning depends on the observer. Poems can arise that say something to someone.«
The Museum of Modern Literature, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, was opened in 2006 and received the Stirling Prize in 2007.
