Explanation
Ballade; erschien 1880 in der Zeitschrift "Die Gegenwart"; Fontane verarbeitet darin den Einsturz der Firth-of-Tay-Brücke in Schottland (1879). Er entwendete das Motiv der drei Hexen aus "Macbeth", welche das Überlegenheitsgefühl des Menschen tadeln, indem sie die Brücke zum Einsturz bringen.
