Journals in the Library of the German Literature Archive Marbach
Our holdings of journals encompass periodicals that are literary in nature, relevant to literature and subject-specific. Currently, 15,600 titles in around 280,000 volumes and issues are recorded. The collection of modern literary journals since 1880 is among the most extensive and diverse collections in Germany.
Due to their value as a source for bibliographic, editorial and literary historical research, the journals in the library, both those already collected and those currently acquired, are also selectively catalogued according to their contents with special emphasis being placed on the registration of primary literary texts. Provided that journals are freely available in the Internet or are digitized and accessible through a licensing arrangement (Jugend, Simplicissimus, Merkur, Neue Rundschau or journals of literary Expressionism), a link to the full text is provided in the online catalog Kallías.
We currently subscribe to about 800 literary and scholarly journals, licensed in digital form are more than 700. At present fifty-seven selected scholarly journals (list of scholarly journals) and thirty-one literary journals (list of literary journals) are being evaluated.
