Suhrkamp Research Group
Established experts and doctoral candidates intensively and systematically explore the Siegfried Unseld Archive (SUA), which has been located in Marbach since 2009. This is accomplished within the framework of the Suhrkamp Research Group, which was developed by the German Literature Archive Marbach in cooperation with partner universities. The Suhrkamp Research Group is sponsored by the Volkswagen Foundation and by the Ministry for Science, Research, and the Arts in Baden-Württemberg (MWK). Cataloguing is sponsored by the German Research Foundation (DFG).
In conjunction with the numerous holdings of the German Literature Archive, literary networks, intellectual constellations, and creative processes can be discovered, while theory and its implementation can be observed behind the scenes. Exchanges of letters by authors, such as Theodor W. Adorno or Ingeborg Bachmann, reports about the publisher’s travels to Thomas Bernhard in Salzburg or to Octavio Paz in Mexico, the correspondence of the editors of the »Theorie« series, manuscripts revised by editors or detailed business-related documentations are examples of what can be explored at the German Literature Archive.
For the first time in the history of the German Literature Archive Marbach, a holding of such qualitative and quantitative magnitude has already been opened for research while being catalogued. The coordination of the German Literature Archive Marbach facilitates an ideal nexus of research and cataloguing and fosters cooperation between the archive and the humanities.
