Works titles as knowledge area

Since March 2020, the German Literature Archive Marbach and the Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek have catalogued more than 4,500 works of German literature in structured form as authority data in the »Werktitel als Wissensraum« (»Works titles as knowledge area«) cooperation project. Weimar is cataloguing works titles from 1700 to 1914, Marbach those from 1915 to 2015. This expands the knowledge area of the Integrated Authority File (GND) to include bibliographic and academic information on literary works, their contexts and relationships. The use of authority data for works makes it possible to link holdings in different material form: objects, manuscripts, books, pictures, musical settings, dramatic adaptations, artworks, films, installations and games. Works titles represent important coordinates in the »bibliographic atlas« and the data basis for identifying the dissemination paths of literature. They offer a wide range of re-use and networking opportunities for the digital humanities as a whole, and for bibliographies, catalogues and edition and research projects in particular.
